Door #1 or Door #2

This week we are going to introduce the February song: He Sent His Son. There will be 2 big doors hanging up on the chalkboard. A child will be chosen to come up. I will sing the first question in the song and ask the child if they think the answer to the question is behind Door #1 or Door #2. I will open the chosen door and ask the child if they think they chose correctly.

If they say yes, and it is actually the correct answer, I will have everyone sing both the question and the answer. If it is incorrect, I will humor the child and sing it together, but will then explain why it is the incorrect answer. If they say no, I will let them see what is behind the other door. This should be a fun way to introduce the song and help them understand the meaning of the lyrics.

Q1: How could the father tell the world of love and tenderness?
A1: He sent his Son, a newborn babe, with peace and holiness. (correct)
A1: He sent us all icecream and cake, and other yumminess. (incorrect)

Q2: How could the father show the world the pathway we should go?
A2: He sent his son to walk with men on earth, that we may know. (correct)
A2: He sent his son to do our chores, so we could play outside. (incorrect)

Q3: How could the father tell the world of sacrifice, of death?
A3: He sent his Son to die for us and rise with living breath. (correct)
A3: He sent his Son to die for us, and that was the end. (incorrect)

Q4: What does the Father ask of us? What do the scriptures say?
A4: Have faith, have hope, live like his Son, help others on their way. (correct)
A4: Complain a lot when things don't go your way; only help others when there's something in it for you. (incorrect)

Q5: What does he ask?
A5: Live like his Son. (correct)
A5: Eat all your vegetables. (incorrect)

Reflection

The children absolutely LOVED this! I was actually quite surprised that such a simple idea would be such a hit. While the kids really enjoyed this, I feel as though they did not learn as much of the song this week as I would have liked. I would definitely recommend this idea for shorter songs (avoid for multiple verse songs).

** Idea from The Crazy Chorister; tweaked by yours truly! =)
